I’m an atheist. I put up with religion everyday. GOD bless you, thank you GOD, oh my GOD, I pledge allegance under GOD, in GOD we trust. While I don’t say any of that, I hear it everywhere. Atheists put up with what we don’t believe in. We watch people start wars and blow things up for their Gods. We see them protest funerals and doctors for their Gods. We sit back as religion does it’s thing. If you can’t handle some anti-religious humor, then its a shame. We put up with more than you think as atheists, try doing the same.

THIS SO MUCH

I want to share a story with you all, pt 1

nostalgia1709:

My friend, let’s call him Ben, decided it was time to come out to his family. He called me and asked me if I wanted to have dinner with them all so he would have support in case something went wrong. He hadn’t seen his family in a few months because he’s studying in another city. He’s independent from them and they’re not on the best of terms, but coming out is something he wanted to do - to free himself from it, which I can understand.

I said I’d show up, of course. At first his mum and dad thought I was his date, which was a bit awkward.

After the meal, Ben got up and said he had something to say. And he said, ‘I’m gay.’.

Everyone was silent as a grave. And then chaos started. I don’t even want to recount the whole situation, but it was extremely uncomfortable. I think his dad was OK with it, but just shocked, you know? His mum, on the other hand… wasn’t so thrilled.

All the while, I was trying to stay out of the situation, but I said a few things (and was promptly shut up). So I decided to watch Ben’s grandmother who was silently sitting in her chair. Ben was most worried about her reaction because he had a great relationship with her and really, really adored her.

She was so damn serious I was actually kind of scared. She got up after a while and yelled at all of them to ‘Shut up and sit down because I won’t tolerate this in my house!’. Everyone went dead. She once again repeated and told everyone to sit the fuck down.

I think I will forever remember it, but I’m not sure if I have everything word for word.

‘On Sunday, we will all go to church. Together. You have all forgotten what it means to be a proper family. We will all apologize to God and to each other for things we’ve said. My son in law will apologize for being unable to take a stand against his wife. My daughter will apologize for being a bitch and I will apologize for not being able to raise a daughter who could embrace the love and acceptance for others. I don’t understand what I could have done so wrong in my daughter’s upbringing. I could say much more to this subject, but I just don’t have words to express how deeply horrified and disappointed I am.  And my grandson will apologize for waiting until I am almost as good as dead to share something like this with me and having so little faith in my reaction. Though seeing how my former daughter reacted, I couldn’t put the whole blame on him.’

She took her walking stick by the chair and walked to Ben, hugged him and said, ‘I’ve known you were gay ever since you took that neighbor girl’s dolls and performed a marriage ceremony on Ken and Ken.’

Ben started crying and said ‘Thank you grandma. I love you.’

Mum’s reaction aside, it was one of the most beautiful moments in my life.

[There’s more to this, but I didn’t want to make this post any longer.]

this is beautiful and that grandma is my hero. ♥♥♥

rant rant rant

so ok. some people have sth against other people (Imma be as vague here as I can). some from the band, some from Adam’s friends or even some around here.

ok. w/e, everyone is entitled to an opinion.

but saying stuff like ‘Ive made up my mind and nothing you can say can change what I think” …

there is so much wrong with that statement I don’t even know where to start.

ok I know I’ll start from the beginning because it’s a very good place to start (cwidt? yes I’ll link him soon.)

so really, it’s just.. it’s not how life works you know?

people need to grow, learn and and listen to arguments. of course they need to question the arguments too, but it’s important to constantly question what you know too, reevaluate your opinions. no one is just born with a world view.

I’m trying to channel the Dawkins mojo here but I’m not in the least bit as eloquent as he is. Listen to the man.

no matter what age you are you can’t be closed off to a discussion. you can’t just stick your fingers in your ears and go ‘lalalalalala’ whenever someone says sth you don’t agree with.

discussions are important and they can’t just consist of people saying what they think and leaving. you have to listen to what the other side has to say too. politely. if their arguments aren’t convincing than great you just strengthened your beliefs, but you cant start with ‘you can’t convince me’ attitude.

(this is kinda what’s wrong with religious fanatics too.)

and it really reminded me of Cheeks  ^^

it’s just the way I was raised ..

I know this not about the same thing. but it’s circulating there.

but being open-minded is just being willing to consider new ideas. about everything. be skeptical but still able to listen.

Why I don’t say the pledge.

I will not say a pledge to a country that I do not plan on staying in for my adult life.

I am an atheist. “One nation, UNDER GOD…”

But, most importantly, this:

Fucking this.

The pledge is the biggest most blatant lie there is, and i refuse to say it

“No, I don’t know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered as patriots. This is one nation under God.” — Former president George Bush.

I’m atheist. I’m a legal U.S. citizen. IF SOME BITCH WANTS TO COME TELL ME THAT I SHOULD NOT BE, I’MMA PIMP SLAP THE FUCK OUT OF THAT MOTHERFUCKER.

o.o I didn’t know he said that. wow. just wow. does this man not know the constitution -.-‘

Let’s face it. When people talk about homosexuality being unnatural and an abomination, they’re not talking about the women. No, no, they’re talking about the men. Nobody seems to find anything so abominable about Britney Spears tonguing Madonna. Or Gina Gershon in bed with Jennifer Tilly… No, in America, when a man puts something in another man, it had better be a bullet.
